Abstract

Lembur Mangrove Patikang has biodiversity potential that can be developed as an educational and ecotourism resource. However, the utilization of biodiversity information and social media management by the local community remains limited. This community service program aimed to strengthen the community’s capacity to identify, observe, document, and communicate biodiversity information through digital media. The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach through four stages: problem identification and biodiversity introduction, biodiversity observation and documentation, social media and content creation training, and mentoring and evaluation. The participants consisted of 14 local managers and community members involved in activities at Lembur Mangrove Patikang. The results showed that the initial biodiversity inventory identified 18 bird species from 15 families, which can be developed as educational information for the area. Participants also received training in biodiversity observation and documentation and in developing observation results into educational and promotional content for social media. The evaluation showed an increase in the participants’ average score from 50 in the pre-test to 78 in the post-test, representing an increase of 28 points (56%). These results indicate that the program strengthened the community’s initial capacity to understand biodiversity and utilize it as a source of digital communication. Program sustainability is directed toward regular biodiversity documentation, collaborative information management, and the development of educational and promotional content for Lembur Mangrove Patikang.
